Daily Art Habit

Challenge #1 and the Ridiculously Petty Blocker

Challenge #1 and the Ridiculously Petty Blocker

Well probably more like Challenge #1,000,000… But for the purposes of this story Challenge #1 was the new iPad Pro and Apple Pencil I bought myself for my birthday in 2018.

The intent was to use it to journal, take notes and make art. I’d started scribbling with Adobe Sketch, it looked and felt cool…

But the iPad was just too precious, too delicate, and too slippery for all the clumsy uses I’d planned.

I whined to Jodi about this over drinks, and she told me that she and another friend were committed to holding each other accountable to making a piece of art every day.

I made a commitment to buy a damn case.

I am embarrassed to say how long it took to get the case, even though I realized that the lack of a case for my delicate iPad was a ridiculously huge blocker.

I blamed the non-case for my lack of motivation and slow start to my iPad art-making exploits. (It’s nice to have a scapegoat, especially when it can’t defend itself because it doesn’t even exist yet.)

Some people like to shop for things like this. I’m not one of them. I took a deep breath before heading to Amazon with only one must-have feature for my case - a place to hold the Apple Pencil. I ended up ordering this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0798CGL8T/

It looks cheaper in person than in the pictures. It’s bulky and heavy.

And it does a great job of holding the pencil.

And my iPad wasn't precious anymore.

Thanks Ugly Case!
