HOPE (and its companion piece FEAR) are part of a series of work made in 2024 called Tax Included.

The source material for these works is my Daily Art Habit series. I make a digital painting every day. This is a practice I started in 2018 to reclaim my creative energy after a long hiatus from art. Since then, it has grown and evolved into a time-based series of autobiographical digital paintings – now built over more than 2200 consecutive days’ work.

HOPE is created from over a hundred different images from the series, selected for their bluish tones  Each image is printed as a four-inch postcard three times, then cut, folded and constructed into dimensional forms. The companion piece, FEAR, is created in the same method. The pieces are designed to share some of their imagery, with light surfaces for HOPE and dark for FEAR. Where the imagery overlaps, the  works share the same physical materials. FEAR was built first, photographed, then deconstructed and its pieces reconstructed into HOPE.
