This piece was created for “Please Touch,” an art exhibit designed to be accessible for sight impaired people. Each constructed paper form is made from sixteen different images that come from the Daily Art Habit series that were selected by color for this project. They were printed on paper, scored, folded and attached together into a series of four diamond shapes. Each joint in this form is flexible, allowing the artwork to be manipulated into different shapes that range in length from 1 to 32 inches. This piece is called Spectral Shapeshifter because each construction represents a color in the visible light rainbow. In art, people tend to think of “spectrum” as referring to color, but it can also refer to a series of positions between two opposite points. The flexibility of this art piece allows visitors to a shape spectrum through touch.
